Obituary: Ernest M. Delp, 86, of Harleysville, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, in Peter Becker Community, Harleysville. He was the husband of Helen B. (Ritter) Delp for 66 years. He was employed by Harleysville Insurance Co., retiring as secretary-treasurer in 1976 after 46 years' service. He began his career as a bookkeeper, was elected treasurer and board member in 1947, assistant secretary in 1952 and secretary-treasurer in 1955. He was also a board member of Harleysville National Bank, 1951-76, president, 1969-71, and board chairman, 1974-76, . At Harleysville Savings Bank, he was a president and a board member for more than 40 years. Born in Lower Salford Township, he was a son of the late Warren N. and Fannie (Moyer) Delp and stepson of Mamie Kulp Delp. He was a charter member and a past treasurer of Indian Valley Mennonite Church, Harleysville. Delp was an organizer and director of the original Harleysville Athletic Association. He was a charter member of the Harleysville Lions Club and served as its second president. He had 52 years of perfect attendence with the Lions and during his term as president, the Kulpsville Lions Club was organized. In 1959, he received the Distinguished Citizen Award from the Harleysville Jaycees. He was recipient in 1989 of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, the highest honor from Lions International. Survivors: Wife; daughters, Lorraine D., wife of Robert C. Schwoyer of Harleysville, and Constance D., wife of Larry K. Landis of Franconia; sister, Verna D. Alderfer of Telford; stepsisters, Pearl Kulp, Anna, wife of Harley Gehman, and Alma, wife of Samuel Derstine, all of Souderton; stepbrother, Linneous Kulp of Sellersville, six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday in the church. Call 6-8 p.m. Friday and 10-11 a.m. Saturday in the church. Arrangements, Bergey Funeral Home, Harleysville.
