Lorna H. Cassel, 88, of Souderton, formerly of Hatfield, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, in the skilled nursing unit of Souderton Mennonite Homes, Souderton, eight months after suffering a massive stroke.
She was the widow of Clifford K. Cassel, who died in 1992. The couple had been married 57 years.
Born in Souderton, she was a daughter of the late Clayton D. and Blanche (Crouthamel) Hendricks. Raised on Front Street, Souderton, she moved to Vine Street, Hatfield, where she resided until moving to the Souderton Mennonite Homes in June 1993.
She was a 1932 graduate of Souderton High School. She worked as a florist for the George Didden's Greenhouse, Hatfield from 1960 to the 1980s.
Mrs. Cassel was a long-time active member of the Bethany Bible Fellowship Church, Hatfield.
She enjoyed gardening, corresponding with friends, good music, beautiful snowfalls, gourmet Pennsylvania Dutch cooking and picnics with her family.
She was survived by a daughter, Judy B., and her husband James B. Souder of Telford; a son, Joseph D. Cassel, and his wife Kay of Danville; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a brother, Robert C. Hendricks, and his wife Jeanne of Harleysville.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a 16-year-old daughter, Geraldine Blanche Cassel, who died in a car accident in July 1953.
Memorial services were held Monday, Nov. 26, 2001 at Bethany Bible Fellowship Church, Hatfield. Interment was in Hatfield Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
