Obituary: Linford J. Rotenberger, 80, of Quakertown died Tuesday, Sept. 10, in Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill Township. He was the husband of Kathryn R. (Ream) Rotenberger. They were married 55 years in February. Rotenberger founded the Friendly Book Store, Quakertown, in 1940 and owned it until 1974 when it became the property of his son-in-law, L. James Roberts. Rotenberger remained president of the store, which expanded to include a wholesale distribution business to Christian bookstores, until retiring recently. From 1956 until retiring in 1985, he was pastor of Springfield Church of the Brethren, Passer. During that time, he also conducted evangelistic meetings, organized the Brethren Revival Fellowship in York and served on church boards and committees. In 1958, he was a member of the Church of the Brethren standing committee, representing the North Atlantic District at the denomination's 172nd national conference in Des Moines, Iowa. Before coming to Springfield Church, Rotenberger pastored churches in Thurmont, Md., Lansdale and York, and conducted evangelistic services at the Biel Institute in Sebring, Fla. After retiring from the pastorate, he remained a member, part-time Sunday school teacher and Bible study leader of Springfield Church of the Brethren. He also conducted Bible study at Independence Court, Quakertown, and Peter Becker Community, Harleysville. Born in Richland Township, he was a son of the late Edwin and Mary (Cassel) Rotenberger. Survivors: Wife; daughters, Donna, wife of L. James Roberts, Nancy, wife of Brent Zintak, and Kathy, wife of Robert Pickering, all of Quakertown; sister, Kathryn Hangey of East Rockhill Township, and four grandchildren.
