Anna D. Groff, 84, of Souderton Mennonite Homes, formerly of Harleysville, died August 7, 2009. She was the wife of the late Claude G. Groff, who died in 2002. They were married 58 years, and moved to SMH in 1997.
Born in Souderton, she was the daughter of the late Jacob M. and Ida (Detweiler) Moyer. She graduated from Souderton High School, class of 1942.
She was employed by Indian Valley Jr. High School, and later at Hatfield Quality Meats, retiring in 1987. After retirement, she volunteered at Souderton Care & Share and IVOC, also of Souderton. She also volunteered at SMH, where she was instrumental in raising funds for the Groff Elevator. Her other interests as a volunteer at SMH included Thursday night service planning committee, Saturday morning devotions and The Corner Store.
Since her marriage, she was a member of Salford Mennonite Church. Her activities there included Women’s Fellowship, teaching Sunday School & Summer Bible School. Recently, she started a prayer shawl ministry.
She is survived by five children: Rod Groff and his wife Francine of Carlisle, Gwen Groff, Sandy Hurt and her husband Ron, all of Souderton, Lisa Weaver and her husband Dale of Perkiomenville, and Bill Groff and his wife Merry of Westcliffe, CO.; 12 grandchildren, five great grandsons; one brother, Paul Moyer and his wife Ester of Souderton; one sister, Clara Kolb of Spring City.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers: Nelson and Jacob Moyer, and one sister, Esther Bergey.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 12 at 7 p.m. at Salford Mennonite Church, 480 Groff’s Mill Rd., Harleysville. Burial will be private at Salford Mennonite Church.
