Notes Obituary:
William D. Swartley - 89, of Souderton, PA. went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, September 29, 2007 at Souderton Mennonite Homes.

He was the beloved husband for 67 yrs to Valeria (Landes) Swartley.

Born in Souderton, PA, he was the son of the late William K. and Susan (Derstine)
Swartley. Bill was a graduate of Souderton High School Class of 1934.

He was formerly employed by Granite Hosiery, Souderton and Ridge Hosiery,
Quakertown. He served as a commission merchant to Phila & Delaware Counties for
forty years. After retiring, he was a part-time employee of Wampler-Longacre Poultry
Markets.

Bill was a life member of Franconia Mennonite Church where he served 50 yrs
as a Sunday School teacher and several years as a member of the Congregational
Leadership Team. He inherited a love for music, singing in quartets and choruses. He was
a song leader in the Franconia Mennonite Church for 44 years, where he also organized
and directed men's and mixed choruses. He served as Secretary of Church
Music for the Franconia Mennonite Conference for a number of years, organizing music
conferences, song leader clinics, and Church Music Sunday promotions. He also taught
singing schools in various congregations of the Franconia Mennonite Conference.

He volunteered with Choice Books and Care & Share Furniture Shop. He enjoyed wood
working, building dove-tailed chests, quilt racks, and antique car reproductions. He and
his wife enjoyed traveling and visited all 48 states and many provinces of Canada.

In addition to his wife he is survived by: 3 daughters; Carol L. Longacre & hbd - Henry
W. of Franconia, PA.; Janet L. Goshow & hbd - John of Perkasie, PA. ; Elizabeth
L. Heavener & hbd - Keith W. of Telford, PA and a son; William L. Swartley & wife -
Susanne of Hesston, KS; 11 Grandchildren; 21 Great-Grandchildren

He was preceded in death by 2 sisters; Ella Mae Landes and Susan Irene Landes and a brother; Roy D. Swartley

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at 7:30 P.M. at Souderton
Mennonite Summit View Auditorium, 207 W. Summit St., Souderton, PA. Friends may meet with the family on Wednesday evening from 5 to 7. Burial will take place at Franconia Mennonite Cemetery.
