Obituary: Grace Godshall, formerly of Souderton, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, April 18, 2008 at the Rockhill Mennonite Community. She was 91. She was the wife of 70 years to the late Henry S. Godshall who died in February, 2006. Born in Franconia, she was a daughter of the late Jonas and Stella (Nyce) Derstine and a stepdaughter of the late Martha (Moyer) Derstine. Mrs. Godshall, along with her husband, were charter members of Calvary Church of Souderton, where she served as a Sunday school and vacation Bible school teacher, was the head of the tract committee and the missionary sewing guild, and was a member of the Monday morning women's prayer group. She was prayer warrior for her family and a true servant of the Lord through acts of kindness and by faithfully writing and encouraging missionaries and those in need. In addition to raising her family, her main enjoyment was quilting. She had made a quilt for each of her children and grandchildren for their wedding. She also enjoyed gardening and visiting missionaries and family in their fields of service. She was survived by two sons, Laverne D. Godshall and his wife, Linda, of Lynchburg, VA and Robert D. Godshall and his wife, Betty Lou, of New Albany; three daughters, Gladys Smith and her husband, Doug, of Vassar, MI, Ruth Ann Derstein of Souderton and Mary Lou Gehman and her husband, Grant, of Knoxville; 18 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a half sister, Joy Harris of Harleysville; and a sister-in-law, Velma Derstine of Telford. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Wallace Derstein; a sister, Marie Alderfer; and six brothers, Paul, Aldus, Claude, Arthur, Linford and Stanley Derstine. Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 22, 2008 in Calvary Church of Souderton. Interment was in the adjoining church cemetery. |
