Obituaries: Esther R. Yothers, 83, of Souderton Mennonite Homes, died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 1998, at Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill Township. Born in Bedminster, she was a daughter of the late I. Erwin and Nora Elizabeth (Rush) Yothers. She had lived in Souderton since 1942. Miss Yothers had been a seamstress for the former Schoenemann Clothing Factory, Souderton. She then was employed by the former Graybill's Bookstores of Souderton and Doylestown. Later she worked in the kitchen of Grand View Hospital and then became involved in giving home care to the ill. Miss Yothers was a lifelong member of Deep Run Mennonite Church, East, Bedminster and a member of the Mennonite Historians of Eastern Pennsylvania. She volunteered her service to the Care & Share Thrift Shop, Souderton, the Mennonite Heritage Center, Harleysville and Rockhill Mennonite Community, Sellersville. Her hobby was caning chairs. Her church activities included Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teaching and the sewing circle. Interment was in the Deep Run Mennonite East Cemetery. _________________________________________________ Naomi Yothers died April 27, 2002, at Life Quest Nursing Center, Quakertown. She was 97. She had been a Souderton resident since 1942 and resided at Souderton Mennonite Homes since 1997. Born (10/6/1904) in Bedminster Township, she was a daughter of the late I. Erwin and Nora Elizabeth (Rush) Yothers. Miss Yothers worked many years for various families as a live-in nurse and caretaker. She was a longtime member of Lansdale Mennonite Church and a former member of Deep Run Mennonite Church East in Bedminster. In her younger years, she taught vacation Bible school classes and was active in the church sewing circle. She also was a member of the Mennonite Historians of Eastern Pennsylvania, Harleysville. Her special interests included crocheting, sending cards to shut-ins and lovingly relating to her siblings, nieces and nephews. _________________________________________________ Ruth Yothers, 108, of Souderton, Pennsylvania went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at Souderton Mennonite Homes. She was born in Bedminster, Pennsylvania to the late Isaac Erwin Yothers and the late Nora Elizabeth (Rush) Yothers. Ruth worked as a nanny for a local attorney in Lansdale. She then worked as a seamstress for Hanson Textile in Hatfield for 35 years. Ruth volunteered at the Norristown State Hospital, the Care & Share Thrift Shoppes in Souderton and Mennonite Historians of Eastern PA. She was a lifetime member of Deep Run Mennonite Church East where she served as a former Sunday School and Summer Vacation Bible School teacher. Ruth was also a member of the Mennonite Historians of Eastern PA. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading and traveling with her sisters throughout North America. During her summers, Ruth took 8 week vacations teaching vacation Bible school at various churches in Vermont and Kentucky. She had a sharp mind and could tell good stories from the past and present. Ruth was a hardworking, caring and compassionate person. She is survived by a sister, Florence Bucher of Bellefontaine, OH; a brother, Isaac Erwin Yothers, Jr. & wife, Martha of Souderton, PA; thirty nieces and nephews; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews and many great-great nieces and great-great nephews. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by five sisters, Naomi Yothers, Miriam Yothers, Esther Yothers, Margaret Leatherman & Alverna Hunsberger; two brothers, Paul & Richard Yothers; a sister-in-law, Ruth Yothers and three brothers-in-law, Harold Bucher, Howard Leatherman and Daniel Hunsberger. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 21, 2016 at 7:00 pm at Souderton Mennonite Summit View Auditorium, 207 W. Summit St., Souderton, Pennsylvania 18964 where friends may view and meet with the family from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Burial will take place on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at 10:00 am at Deep Run Mennonite Cemetery East. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Mennonite Central Committee, 21 S. 12th Street, Akron, PA 17501. |
