Obituary: W. Paul Moyer, of Lansdale, formerly of Doylestown, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at Dock Woods Community. He was 95. Paul was the loving husband for 71 years of the late Elizabeth 'Betty' Moyer who passed away on February 15, 2013. He was born in Humbert, Pa. to the late William and Mary Beachy Moyer. Paul graduated from Doylestown High School Class of 1936 and attended Goshen College for two years. He served in the Civilian Public Service in Hagerstown, Md. and with the National Service Board for Religious Objectors in Washington D.C. during World War II. Throughout his life time, he owned and operated the Culligan Water Conditioning Service, the Wash House/Car Wash, and was a partner in Dutch Maid Cleaners and Laundry and in several coin operated laundries, all in Doylestown. Paul was also involved in land and home development in the Stroudsburg area. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Paul was an avid reader and enjoyed hunting and camping. He was a life member of Doylestown Mennonite Church, where he formerly served as trustee, Sunday School teacher and Summer Bible School superintendent. Paul was a chorister who enjoyed hymns of the faith and singing in various choruses. He was a founding member of the Franconia Mennonite Camping Association and a former director of Spruce Lake Retreat in Canadensis, Pa. Paul was active in the Mennonite Church, locally and nationally, serving on various boards and committees. He was a national 1-W coordinator and was involved with the introduction of the Franconia Ministerial Retirement Fund. Paul was survived by his two sons, J. Phillip Moyer, M.D. and wife, Betsy, of Green Lane, Pa., James Moyer and wife, Pamela, of Doylestown; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Mark Moyer and wife, Betty, of Davidsville, Pa. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Ross; a sister, Beatrice Detweiler; and three brothers, William, Walter and Galen Moyer. A memorial service was held on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Doylestown Mennonite Church. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery. |
