Obituary: Wayne Daniel Martin, died peacefully at 1:13 p.m. on Sunday, November 28, 2010 at the Souderton Mennonite Home. He was 96 years old. Wayne was born in Smithville, Wayne County, Ohio on April 4, 1914. When he was five years old, his father died and his mother and sister moved to Eastern Pennsylvania to be with family. Wayne worked as a butcher for C D Moyer in Blooming Glen from 1943 until 1952. Then, from 1952 until he retired in 1976, he managed the Frozen Food Locker and did custom cutting of beef at Rosenberger's Dairy in Hatfield. During that time, the Dairy Wagon opened which replaced the Frozen Food Locker. All through his adult years, he directed Choruses and sang tenor in Choral groups. The last chorus that he directed was the SAC in Telford, which was in the 1980's. Over the years, he sang with the Zion Choral Society. Funeral services were held December 4, 2010 at the Souderton Mennonite Home Chapel, and at the gravesite at the Perkasie Mennonite Cemetery. |
