Clair S. Bauman of Quakertown died Thursday, July 31, 2008, in Grand View Hospital, West Rockhill Township. He was 81.
He was the husband of Stella (Kratz) Bauman. They celebrated their 61st anniversary in April, 2008.
Born in Milford Township, he was the son of the late Wilmer and Myrtle (Shelly) Bauman.
He was a driver for Bucks County Transport for nine years before retiring at the age of 75. Previously, he worked as a driver for Perkiomen Tours, Pennsburg, for more than 20 years, and was a manager at the former Cassel Food Market, Quakertown, for more than 20 years. In 1974, Clair was recognized by the Pennsylvania School Bus Association as a driver of distinction.
He was an active member of Salem Mennonite Church, Quakertown, serving as Sunday School superintendent and teacher for many years.
During World War II, he served as a civilian in public service.
In addition to his wife, he was survived by his sons, Duane and his wife, Carol, Roger and his wife, Becky, Gary and his wife, Debby, Clair T. and his wife, Rita, David and his wife, Shannon, Matthew and his wife, Libby, and Phillip and his wife, Cindy; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold and his wife, Mary; and his sisters, Edna Hillegas, Mary Bittenbender, and Ella Barndt. He was preceded in death by a grandson; two brothers; and two sisters.
His funeral service was held Aug. 4, 2008 in Swamp Mennonite Church, Quakertown.
