Provenance |
Samuel Bechtel (d. 1802) was a son of immigrant minister Hans Jacob Bechtel of Manatawny. In adulthood, Samuel moved to Saucon, and finally to Rockhill. He served as a preacher at both places. His grandson, Samuel Gehman (1767-1845) was a preacher and school teacher at Rockhill. This book of sermons may have been used also by Samuel's father, Abraham Gehman (d. 1792), a preacher at Rockhill. The donor received the book from minister J. C. Clemens of Plains, though it is unknown where J. C. got the book. His son James was married to a descendant of Samuel Gehman, Eva Moyer Clemens (1918-1987). It's also possible that J. C. Clemens received the book from minister Clinton Landis, who lived on the farm at Rockhill where Samuel Gehman had lived. |
