Provenance Attributed to Mennonite schoolmaster Henry G. Johnson (1806-1879). Found in his family Bible. Possibly made for his son Isaac H. Johnson (1830-1903), who inherited the family Bible. Isaac would have been 13 years old when this piece was made and a student in his father's school. The Bible was passed down to his grandson Newton J. Metz (1897-1986), from whom (or on whose estate auction) it was purchased by a local dealer and subsequently sold to the MHC.
