Pair of ladies black leather boots. The boots have a lace up with black cotton twill laces (one is a dress cord and the other is a flat lace) with metal aglets. There are perforated sections near the vamp and along the rounded toe, creating a toe cap. The boots are lined in cream cotton but at the top pening of the shoe there is blue silk lining with a stamp in the right shoe which reads: "The Timbro STANDARDIZED SHOE/ "EACH PART THE STANDARD OF ITS CLASS"/ TRADEMARK REGISTERED." The sole is made out of black and brown leather, with a designated right and left foot and the brown section is embossed with the maker's mark "Rock-Oak Sole." The boots have a 1.50" high heel made out of black leather with a rubber cap that is embossed with the maker's mark: "FOSTER PATENT NON SLIP CAT'S PAW CUSHION HEEL 4 4 FOSTER RUBBER CO." |
Provenance |
Worn by Elizabeth "Eliza" D. Clemmer Rittenhouse (1840-1921), wife of Jacob K. Rittenhouse (1838-1913); residents of Towamencin Township, Montgomery County. The shoes are in excellent condition - it's likely these were worn shortly before Eliza's death. |
