Description A ladies handstitched apron made out a bleached white cotton (broadcloth). A cotton embroidered tape trim has been applied to the top, acting as a waistband, the cotton has been pleated under the application for the trim, which creates the flounced look at the waist. Just below the knee length the apron is decorated with a set of four pintucks, and insertion of a cotton crochet trim and a second set of four pintucks. Attached to the hem is a 3.00" long trim of the same crochet trim, and an additional crocheted sawtooth fringe.
Provenance Made and worn by Sarah S. (Landis) Shelly (1856-1900), wife of Harrison B. Shelly (1849-1927). They were members of the East Swamp Mennonite Church. The cap was passed down to her granddaughter, the donor.
