A handstitched grain bag made out of handspun natural linen tow. In the center section there is the arched name which reads "SAMUEL.LANDIS." Below the name is the inscription "HILLTOWN BUCKS CO. PA." which have both been stencilled and hand painted on brown paint. Located above the name are the cross-stitched initials "C.M.L." in brown linen. Attached to the left side is a 4.00" wide self-fabric "spout." There are two buttonholes on the left side flanking the seam with bleached linen twist cord ties inserted into the holes and tied. The top opening has a 1/4" wide foldover hem.
According to the donor's genealogy, this bag
belonged to Samuel B. Landis (1849-1933) of Hilltown Township, Bucks County. He was married to Mary Ann M. (Hockman) Landis (1848-1934).
