Provenance |
Friendship quilt assembled by Mary G. Gehman (1877-1943), of Upper Hanover Township, Montgomery County, in 1897, well before her marriage to John S. Kriebel (1882-1950) in 1914. After marriage, they joined the Bally Mennonite Congregation. Family story states that after Mary Gehman asked her friends and relatives to make blocks for her friendship quilt, she received so many blocks that she was able to make two quilts from them. Both quilts were later passed passed on to her daughter, Lydia G. Kriebel (1920-1998), who donated this one to MHC in 1976. What happened to the other quilt is not known. |
