Provenance |
Owned by Abraham G. Rice (1882-1946). Probably drawn by him also. The same style of bird appears on an 1862 bookplate for Barbara Leatherman (High) (1841-1926) in the MHC collection (item #1990.1.2), which may have been made by her nephew, Peter L. Detweiler (1844-1896). Peter Detweiler may have been a teacher in the German school at Deep Run in early 1896 prior to his death (see item #2013.29.1 signed P.D.). Perhaps this bird was a design used repeatedly by Detweiler and in this case copied by his student. |
