TRANSLATION: The angels, who in heaven's light, Joyfully praise Jehovah, And look upon God's face, so bright, Are truly high exalted, Yet they are ordered by their Lord, To keep the children in this world, In safety and protection. O greatest good, O greatest love, God, to poor mortals showeth, When, angel spirits from above, On children, he bestoweth, Who cleave to God by faith, so strong, Praise him, whoe'er can lisp the song, With angel hosts in heaven. Become then, as the angels are, Ye mortals on earth dwelling, Here in the Kingdom of his grace, Your hearts and spirits telling, It is the angels work to see, That God's will becomes reality, Alone, in earth and heaven. Lay off all that would hinder thee, This angel-life, from gaining, Depart from rudeness by and by, Not soiled with earth, remaining Rise, in God's spirit, upon high, To angels choirs, in the sky, And serve thy God with gladness. One who permits his lusts to rule, Gives free rein to desire, Will not come to the Lord's great feast Or hear the angel choir, Echo loud praise to their great God, Or hear his precious purchased flock, Sing the, thrice-holy, chorus. (upper case script alphabet) (left hand box) Done for Johannes Clemens February 22nd 1816. |
