Description |
Fraktur style bookplate, in black ink, for Eliza Musselman, Franconia Township, March 1849, from an 1848 "Harfe der Kinder Zions" (the German-language Franconia Mennonite hymnbook). The bookplate is pasted to one of the book covers (or lid), which was detached from the hymnbook. The hymnbook itself was in poor condition, and has been discarded. The inscription reads: "Dieses Buch gehöret Eliza Musselman. Sie ist gebohren den 24ten Ocotober im Jahr 1841. Geschrieben den 15ten Merz 1849, Franconia Tp., Montgomery [Co.] Pennsylvania." (This book belongs to Eliza Musselman. She was born the 24th of October in the year 1841. Written the 15th of March 1849. Franconia Twp., Montgomery Co., Pennsylvania). |
Provenance |
Eliza Musselman (1841-1930), was the daughter of Henry M. & Sallie Young Musselman of Franconia Township. She married Jacob C. Moyer (1839-1921) of Lower Salford, later a preacher in the Salford Mennonite Congregation. The book and bookplate was purchased by the donor on a local auction. |
