Description |
A ladies bonnet constructed out of black braid straw. There is a high stand up 2.250" wide brim. The inside of the brim is lined in a rouched magenta silk satin. Attached to the side, there is a black silk twisted ribbon with attached artificial silk flowers and leafs. The flowers have been painted magenta with a metallic finish. There is a wide black silk moire ribbon attached to the base of the crown and extending past the brim into ribbon ties averaging 26.00" long. The crown is lined in a brown gauze fabric. |

There is no information about the maker or origin of this piece, except that it was probably worn by the donor's maternal grandmother, Mary B. (Schantz) Longacre (1852-1931), wife of John W. Longacre (1848-1922). They lived in Richland Township, Bucks County and were members of the East Swamp Mennonite Church. |
