Description A ladies bonnet constructed out of black braid straw. There is a high stand up 2.250" wide brim. The inside of the brim is lined in a rouched magenta silk satin. Attached to the side, there is a black silk twisted ribbon with attached artificial silk flowers and leafs. The flowers have been painted magenta with a metallic finish. There is a wide black silk moire ribbon attached to the base of the crown and extending past the brim into ribbon ties averaging 26.00" long. The crown is lined in a brown gauze fabric.
Provenance There is no information about the maker or origin of this piece, except that it was probably worn by the donor's maternal grandmother, Mary B. (Schantz) Longacre (1852-1931), wife of John W. Longacre (1848-1922). They lived in Richland Township, Bucks County and were members of the East Swamp Mennonite Church.
