Obituary: Verna D. Moyer, 95, Quakertown died Tuesday, June 5, 2012 in the Rockhill Mennonite Community, Sellersville. She was the wife of the late Ernest K. Moyer, a pastor and businessman, for over 40 years. Born in Souderton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Katie (Derstine) Hackman. Before moving to the Quakertown area with her husband in the mid-1940s, she was employed at Shanaman's [sic, should be Schoeneman's] Sunlight Clothing industry in Souderton. She then assisted her husband in the founding of Moyer's Chicks hatchery, as well as becoming a pastor's wife and associated lay ministry involvement at Rocky Ridge Mennonite Church, Quakertown. She always demonstrated a gracious spirit, a servant's heart, and easily shared a hearty laugh to lift one's spirits. Surviving were sons; Ivan H. (Evelyn) and Leon H. (Karen), all of Quakertown; daughter, Eileen (Jeryl) Knechel, of Harleysville; sister, Dorothy (Paul) Martin, of Lititz; grandchildren, Kathy (John) Skyrm, Carol (Dave) Shalaway, Cindy, Kari (Chad) Landis, Jana (Jason) Scheetz, Joelyn (Kent) Metzler, Andrew Knechel, Ernest (Robyn) Knechel and Melody (Benjamin) Kolb; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Kyle, Jason, Alex, Quin, Ethan, Elijah, Katelyn, Cassidy, Cameron, Isaac, Lily, Lydia and Kai. She was predeceased by siblings, Linford, Wilmer, Susan (Edwin) Moyer, and J. Walter. Services were held on Sunday, June 10, 2012 in Rocky Ridge Mennonite Church, Quakertown. Interment was in Rocky Ridge Mennonite Church Cemetery. |
