Description

Sunbonnet of black cotton with fine black on black pin stripe. The brim of the bonnet at the top measures 7" and tapers down to 5" at the sides and is stitched with many rows of stitching 0.25" apart. The crown is attached to the brim with a ruffle measuring 1.25". Two 17" ties 1.5" wide form a bow in the back. 11" ties 1.5" wide fasten under the chin and are sewn inside the bonnet. An 11" skirt is attached. Many mended tears.

Provenance

Belonged to the family of Harrison B. Shelly and Sarah S. Landis Shelly of East Swamp Mennonite Church, Quakertown, Bucks County, Pa. They were the grandparents of the donor.
