A doll's bed mattress made out of blue and white striped cotton ticking. The bed is stuffed, probably with straw. There are eight pink silk knottings, mimicking the dimpled sections of a real mattress. |
Provenance |
Made by Sarah M. Harley Alderfer (1836-1927), wife of Benjamin Z. Alderfer (1831-1899). They resided in Montgomery County. The bedding was made for her granddaughter, Emma Luella A. Ziegler (1902-1984). Emma was the daughter of J. Horace (1857-1928) and Lydia H. (Alderfer) Ziegler (1861-1942) of Lower Salford Township, Montgomery County. Emma later married Elmer K. Carl (1892-?). |
