Description |
A man's machine made waistcoat comprised of a ribbed black wool with a short shawl collar. There is front center button closure of seven covered buttons. There are four slit pockets, two at the chest and two and the natural waistline. The back is made of a plain black cotton with a self belt with metal clasp. The waistcoat is lined in a beige printed windowpane checked cotton. There are two red silk arm bands found in the proper left inside pocket. Vest worn by Preacher Micheal R. Moyer(1836-1912) of Franconia Congregation, Ca. 1880. He was ordained in 1883, but this vest appears to have been worn by him before ordination. See also MHEP 1989.9.1-3 (Micheal Moyers plain Frock Coat, vest and hat). |
Provenance |
Worn by Michael R. Moyer (1836-1912), a preacher at the Franconia Congregation. He was ordained in 1883, but (due to the style) this vest appears to have been worn by him before his ordination. He was married to Elmina G. Clemens Moyer (1836-1905). They resided in Montgomery County. See also 1989.9.1-3 for his plain frock coat, another vest and hat. |
