Description |
A doll with handstitched clothing. a) The dress is comprised of a shirt made out of an orange and white printed grid cotton with a red and black cross print. The shirt has a high neck and a piece of cream silk has been attached but most has deteriorated. A piece of white (very aged) cotton gauze trim has been attached to the inside of the collar. The shirt is attached to a wide skirt made out brown silk with thin wale ribbing. b) The doll is comprised of a bisque head attached to a wood neck and body. The body is shaped like a "T" and only extends to the waist. The neck and body have been covered in a cream cotton. The face has been hand painted. |

Belonged to Emma Luella Ziegler (Carl) (1902-1984) as a young child. She was the daughter of John H. Ziegler (1857-1928) and Lydia H. Alderfer Ziegler (1861-1942), of Montgomery County. Reportedly made for Emma Luella by her great-aunt Deborah M. Harley Moyer (1829-1909). |
