Description |
Whole Cloth Quilt comprised of four panels of a glazed cotton furnishing fabric. The fabric consists of a dark purple ground with a repeated 'Pheasant and Tree' pattern in teal, hues of orange and cream. The entire front has diamond cross-hatching and has been handstitched with brown or white thread and a SPI of 5-7. There is a 1/8" wide foldover binding from front to back. The back is comprised of five panels of printed vertically striped cotton, consisting of a repeated brown outlined floral motif with contrasting brown and white ground. At the back are the cross-stitched initials "H.S." in brown cotton. A cotton sleeve has been attached by museum staff for display purposes. |

This quilt was given to Nellie Victoria Fretz (1885- ), daughter of Lewis F. Fretz (1860- ) and Sallie F. Stahr Fretz (1863-1885). It was given as a keepsake to remember her mother, who passed away when Nellie was six months old. This quilt was cataloged in the 1991 Goschenhoppen Historians Quilt Round-Up. |
