TRANSCRIPTION: [V.1.] Ich Weis mir ein Ewiges Himmel Reich Daß ist Gantz Schön gebauet, Nicht von silber noch rothem gold, Mit gottes wort gemauert. V.2. Darinnen wohnet Gottes Sohn, das Jesus'Kindlein fromme, Zu welchem all mein hoffnung steht, Biß daß ich zu ihm komme. V.3. Ein arm'r pilgrim bin ich genannt, Muß wandern meine straßen, Wohl in das ewig vaterland, Bitt wollst mich nicht Verlaßen. [Lower case alphabet] Diese schrifft is gemacht im Jahr Christi 1830 Is. Z. Verse 2. Within, there dwells the Son of God, the baby Jesus blest, on whom my hopes all firmly stand 'till I come to him at last. Verse 3. A pilgrim poor is what I'm called. I wander upon my way unto the eternal fatherland. Forsake me not, I pray. [Lower case alphabet] This writing is made in the year of Christ 1830. Is[aac] Z. Vorschrift (writing model), dated 1830, made and signed by Schoolmaster Isaac Z. Hunsicker for a student -probably in the Salford Meetinghouse School in Lower Salford Township. Comes out of the family of John M. Landes and Elizabeth Clemens Landes (1815-1892) of Upper and Lower Salford Townships, and their son Garret C. Landes. Passed down in the family to a descendant Ellen Jacobs Herr (the donor). |
