The central motif is a geometric diamond, flanked by two floral arrangements with the letter's "B" and "M" in each of the pots. Additionally, surrounding the centered design are a set of floral motifs and two eight-point stars. Located above the diamond is the name "Anna Anganey [Angeny]" separated by a small floral motif and a different floral design above. Located below the diamond is tulip motif with the name "Daved Anganey [Angeny]" separated by a crown motif, with the year "1837" located below. Near the bottom is an embroidered herringbone stitch border. Attached to the bottom is a 3.00" white cotton net and knotted fringe. The right and left edge have a 1/8" wide foldover hem while the top is left unfinished. |
Provenance |
David G. Angeny (1811-1880) resided in Bedminster Township, Bucks County. Anna was probably his sister-in-law Anna L. Kulp Angeny (1812-1876). In 1837, she was already married to David's brother Samuel, but David was still unmarried. Purchased by the donor at the estate auction (spring 1998) of Henry G. Schantz (1909-1997) of Hereford Twp., Berks Co., who married a great-granddaughter of David Angeny--Stella C. Yoder Schantz (1913-1995). They were members of Bally Mennonite Church. |
