Description |
A-B-C Fraktur drawing reproduced by John D. Souder, circa 1940. The text reads, "Ach lieber Mensch Bedencke Christi hebe Die ihn triebe..." At the base, Souder "signed" and (wrongly) attributed it to, "Martin Gottshall-1827, Franconia." Colors: red, purple, orange, green, blue, black. Now somewhat faded and browned. |
Provenance |
A-B-C fraktur-style drawing done by Mennonite historian and fraktur artist John D. Souder of Telford, PA, circa 1940-1941. This was Souder's copy of an original drawing likely made by Samuel Godshall (not by Martin Godshall in 1827, as Souder "signed" the copy), and most likely made in 1833-34-35. The current location of the original drawing is unknown. |
