Description |
Brown leather wallet, or billfold, with several pockets and a small signature of paper sewn in for record keeping. Has a small brass clasp, in the shape of a heart attached with the initials AW lightly scratched on it. Is signed and dated in several places, "Abraham Wismer Jr.", "Abraham Wismer, 1815" and "Abraham Wismer July the 9th 1815." Contains various financial records and notes, and an expense record of a trip to Ontario. |

Leather wallet owned and signed in 1815 by Abraham Wismer (1791-1859) of Bedminster Township, Bucks County. He married Elizabeth Leatherman in 1813 and was later ordained a deacon in the Deep Run Mennonite congregation. Is inscribed (in ink) in several places: "Abraham Wismer, 1815", "Abraham Wismer Jr. 1815", and "Abraham Wismer July the 9th,1815." Among other things, contains an expense record of the trip to Ontario, probably in the 1840s (evidence in other records of Abraham Wismer). It was passed down in the family to his grandson Eli Wismer (1844-1919), then to his grandson Norman M. Wismer (1903-1992), along with numerous other documents and artifacts. |
