Description |
Fraktur bookplate, dated October 1821, attributed to Schoolmaster Jacob Hummel, made for Henrich (Henry) Clemens in the Salford School. In a 1796 German edition of the "Pilgrim's Progress". The inscription reads: "Dieses Christen Reise Buch gehoret mir Henrich Clemens. Geschrieben in der Solforter Schul im Jahr Christi, Anno 1821, den 18ten October." |

Fraktur bookplate dated October 1821, attributed to Jacob Hummel (d.1822), schoolmaster at the Salford Meetinghouse School. Found in a 1796 German copy of the "Pilgrim's Progress". Made for Henry O. Clemens (1810-1890), son of George & Catherine Oberholtzer Clemens of Lower Salford Township, Montgomery County, and later a member of the Salford Mennonite congregation. Later ownership history is unknown. |
