Description |
Broken Star Quilt comprised of a large applied eight-point star medallion motif made of diamond patches of plain and printed cottons. The star consists of a printed lavender cotton, a printed periwinkle cotton, a printed cream cotton and a printed burgundy cotton. The diamond patches have been applied onto a ground of plain white cotton surrounded by quilt stitched floral motifs. The surrounding border is 7/8" wide and made of the same printed burgundy cotton. The outer border is 2.75" wide and made of the same printed periwinkle cotton with swirled quilt stitching and a 3/8" wide applied binding of the same burgundy printed cotton. The back is comprised of plain white cotton, and located in the bottom proper left corner is the embroidered inscription "R.L. and R.K. 1988" in blue silk. A cotton sleeve has been attached by museum staff for display purposes. |
