Description |
Man's waistcoat comprised of black silk satin with a shawl collar. There is a double breasted closure with eight self-fabric covered buttons (one is missing). There are two slit pockets at the natural waistline and one angled slit pocket on the proper left chest. The back is made of the brown cotton and at the lower back there is a self-fabric belt with a metal clasp closure. The waistcoat is lined in glazed brown cotton. The waistcoat is machine constructed with hand finishing details. |

Worn by Jacob K. Rittenhouse (1838-1913) on his wedding to Elizabeth 'Eliza' D. Clemmer (1840-1921) in 1858. They lived in Towamencin Township, Montgomery County, and were members of the Towamenmcin Mennonite Congregation. |
