1834 edition of the Zions Harfe (Franconia Mennonite hymn-book) with a fine bookplate by Samuel Gottschall of Franconia Township: "das Neue Gesangbuch, 1834. Dieses Jahr 1834." Design consists of two long bird heads forming a heart around the inscription and a fan-plume aboce the heart. Colors: red, blue, green, yellow, black. |

Made by Mennonite schoolteacher and fraktur artist Samuel K. Godshall (1808-1898) of Franconia Township, Montgomery County, for himself. He never married and is buried in the Souderton Mennonite Cemetery. This book passed to his niece Susanna G. Bergey Derstine (1837-1917), grandmother of the donor. |
