Small, undated sampler on handspun linen with initials "S. F." (Susie Freed). Designs include a lower case alphabet, birds, star, crowns, hearts, plants with flowers. Mostly dark green or faded blue cross-stitch work. |
Provenance |
Small, undated sampler stitched and initialed by "S. F." (Susie Freed), probably of Franconia Township, Montgomery County. This was either Susie Nice Freed (1868-1937) of Franconia Township, who had married Eleazer Freed in 1885, or their young daughter Susie N. Freed (1892-1984) who later married Abram L. Heebner. It was most likely by the mother Susie Nice Freed, wife of Eleazer Freed. The sampler was eventually handed down to Abram & Susie Freed Heebner's granddaughter Annetta Derstine (the donor). |
