Description |
A ladies manufactured shirtwaist made out of black silk satin. There is a folded down collar with a yoke panel created by machine stitched seam. The shirt has a centered hidden hook and eye closure, and three tucks flank the placket on either side. The bodice has a blouson style with the fabric being loosely attached to the wide waistband. The sleeves are set into the arm syce and are straight and wide, with a wide cuff. There is a paper tag attached to the inside of the collar that reads "38." |
Provenance |
Worn by Sarah S. (Landis) Shelly (1856-1900), wife of Harrison B. Shelly (1849-1927). They were members of the East Swamp Mennonite Church. The bodice was eventually passed down to her granddaughter, who donated it to MHEP. |
