Description |
A ladies square shawl made out of a cream silk with a roller print design. The center square features a small red and green floral print. There is a wide border consisting of taupe ground, green borders and sporadic floral designs. Most of the fringe has deteriorated but it has been hand tied and averages 2.50" long. |
Provenance |
Owned by Elizabeth H. (Bechtel) Schantz (1816-1897), wife of Heinrich "Henry" G. Schantz (1807-1864). They resided in Lehigh County and were members of the Upper Milford Mennonite Church. The shawl was passed down to her daughter, Mary B. (Schantz) Longacre (1852-1931), then to her daughter, Katie S. (Longacre) Grant (1894-1987) and finally to her daughter, the donor. |
