Description |
Quilt comprised of a 32 x 32 block formation of individual squares set on point. Each square averages 1.75" x 1.75" and is made of either a plain pink or lavender cotton, or a white cotton with one of the various floral prints in pink, blue and yellow, purple and green, or a four-patch square made of the same plain pink and lavender cotton, plain green cotton, plain yellow cotton or a combination of plain cotton and any of the printed white cottons. The blocks are surrounded by half blocks made out of the same lavender cotton with a purple and white floral print. There is a 3/8" wide applied binding made out of the plain lavender cotton. The quilt is handstitched with white thread and a SPI of 6. The back is comprised of a white cotton with a printed purple diamond grid with a purple and yellow floral print. |

Made by Rachel H. Lapp Shaddinger (1840-1935), wife of Samuel L.Shaddinger (1875-1953). They resided in Danboro, Bucks County. The quilt was made for her surrogate "niece" Lydia L. Nice Detwiler (1879-1953) of Doylestown, Bucks County. The quilt was passed down to Lydia's son, the donor. |
