Description |
A child's handstitched bleached plain weave linen undershirt. The shirt has a softly scooped neckline, and in the front there is a slit. A silk drawstring is inserted through the collar seam and can be tied. The sleeves are set into the syce with gathering at the shoulder, while a gusset is used to attach the sleeve to the body. |
Provenance |
Comes out of the family of Elias H. Landes (1830-1900) of Montgomery County. The shirt was passed down to his grandson, the donor. Elias was married twice, and it is not known to whom this shirt belonged. His first wife was Barbara M. Moyer Landes (1840-1889), by whom he had two children. His second wife was Sarah "Sallie" B. Boorse Landes (1841-1921). |
