Description |
Colors: red, blue, black, light brown-green. Top lines read: "Gott Furchten Lieben Und Ehren, Soll Man Mit Ernst Die Kinder Lehren...". A fine vorschrift with elaborate title line. In the bottom corners are two hearts, one with text: "O Edelhertz bedenk Dein End, Wer weiss wie Noh der Lauf vollerd", the other with: "Das [Hertze] Mein Soll Dir allein Engeben Seyn, 1798". Plants with blossoms and diamonds sprouting from the two hearts. Piece is inscribed to A. Geissinger. |

Vorschrift made in 1798 for Abraham Geissinger (1784-1862), son of Abraham & Mary Moyer Geissinger of the Saucon Mennonite community. In adulthood he married Eva Meyer (1787-1855), and they are buried in the Saucon Mennonite Cemetery. The donor, Edith M. Geisinger Geissinger, was their great-granddaughter. The MHC also owns the fraktur family register of this same Abraham & Eva Meyer Geissinger (2020.24.1). |
