Description |
Fraktur family register of Johannes M. Neis [John M. Nice], signed and dated: "Ausgefertigt von [Completed by] Martin Wetzler um [on] 11 September 1862." This was soon after John's second marriage to Catherine Schumacher [Shoemaker]. Births of their children were added by Wetzler up to 1871, and then by another person (much less skilled) until 1876. Death records of John and Catherine in 1895 and 1934 were added by later calligraphers. Colors: red, purple, black, blue, green. The sheets, four pages. |

The family register (from their family Bible) of John M. Nice (1819-1895) and his two wives, Magdalena Wanner (1817-1847) and Catharine Shoemaker (1834-1934), of Franconia Township, Montgomery County. The register records the births of eight children, born from 1863 to 1876 (William, Garret, John, Amelia, Edwin, Franklin, David, Anna); all of the second wife. Most of the register is in the hand of, and is signed by Martin Wetzler (Jewish itinerant artist). |
