Description |
A lady's bodice made out of brown silk velvet. There is a slight "V" shaped neckline with a collar created through contrasted machine stitching. Applied to the front and back collar is a wide gold silk woven soutache trim in a loop pattern. The bodice has a slightly off center button closure comprised of four light brown velvet covered buttons. The same soutache trim has been applied on either side of the opening. The gigot/leg-o-mutton sleeves are set into the arm syce with gathering and volume at the shoulders. The sleeves have a wide foldover cuff, also trimmed with the soutache. At the back, the bodice has princess seaming, and in the center panel the soutache trim has been applied near the collar and the hem. The back hem has a slight peplum while the front hem is straight. The bodice is lined in a light brown silk satin with a proper left chest pocket. The jacket is machine constructed with hand finishing details. |
Provenance |
Worn by Mary Lizzie Derstine (1884-1967) on her February 18, 1905 wedding to Harvey G. Cressman (1880-1961). The bodice was passed down to her daughter, Eva D. Cressman Alderfer (1906-1972), wife of the donor. |
