Description |
A machine woven towel made out of white plain weave cotton. At each of the top corners there is a 1.25" long white cotton tape loop. Near the top are the chain stitched initials "K.M.B." in red cotton, flanked by two floral motifs and the year "1920" located above. Along the bottom is a large daffodil motif flanked by the same two floral motifs. The daffodil motif was probably traced from a stencil. Attached to the bottom is a 3.00" long white cotton filet crochet trim with floral motifs. The right and left edges have a 1/4" wide foldover hem while the top edge has been left unfinished. |

Made in 1920 by Katie M. Benner (1905-1968), daughter of Garret D. Benner (1867-1944) and Barbara B. Mensch Benner (1866-1929) of Skippack Township, Montgomery County. In 1926, Katie married Samuel M. Detweiler (1901-1981) of near Souderton, PA. The towel was purchased at Samuel Detweiler's household auction near Harleysville in December 1976. |
