Description |
A ladies vest made out of white cotton pique with silk embroidery. There is a faux collar created by embroidered design with other floral motifs flanking the opening. Two sets of cream rayon silk ribbon ties (averaging 12.00" long) area attached at the front center. There are an additional (5.00" long when expanded) ribbon bands on the sides which hold the two panels together. In the proper right back corner are the initials "NLC." All the edges have a blanket stitched in blue and yellow silk. |
Provenance |
Made by Naomi L. Clemens (Ruth) (1907-2002) when she about sixteen years old. She was the daughter of Henry A. Clemens (1871-1928) and Elizabeth "Lizzie" M. Landis Clemens (1875-1958), of Lower Salford Township, Montgomery County. This vest was worn over a young girl's Sunday dress when combing her hair. Naomi later married Paul L. Ruth (1905-1998). |
